I have had a longstanding and good relationship mostly with the Cleveland Clinic, dating back many years, to the late 1900's. My first doctor there is Dr.

Todd Rich, who is excellent; a gold standard physician. I also worked for them as a non-paid volunteer for their hospice at home in 2013. Unfortunately the loss of my job at 60 (discharge without just cause), then the loss of my sister, dad, and mom to death, all within a 5-year time span, plus my assigned patient in hospice, contributed to PTSD (that I already had from military service), to more of it, and then to AUD (alcohol use disorder). I went into treatment for this at Lutheran Hospital.

I liked the doctor's there as well, Dr. Jerry and Dr. Streem. Some problems arose during the 'talk therapy' part of my treatment, with outside providers (non-professionals) that came in, that made what was supposed to be a "safe environment" for me to share in, unsafe.

Meaning, I felt that I was verbally/emotionally abused by one of these people and even reported it to the nurse. Also, there was mandating of a certain program (I wanted to go in another direction). I was also abused at an outside meeting there. Thus, I relapsed because of these stressors.

The billing department is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I struggled--my insurance company struggled, for over 14 months to get my bill straight/correct. That department imposed/arranged a bank loan for me, which after making consistent payments on, I wanted to pay off completely on my credit card, TOLD THEM OF THAT, and left SPECIFIC MESSAGES WITH MY CONTACT INFORMATION, and never received a call back! I feel that that department's behavior is unorganized, lacks the ability to close the loop, and is completely or borderline dysfunctional.

They continue to deny me the closure that I seek. How hard is it to return a phone call?

P.S. Update: I missed reporting somehow, how pleased I was and have been with the doctor's at this organization, The Cleveland Clinic (+ their affiliate), these include: Dr.

Rich (Solon Family Health Center), Dr. Jerry (Lutheran Hospital), and Dr. Damm (Strongsville Family Health Center).

Even though there was a misunderstanding regarding another doctor, Dr. Stream (Lutheran Hospital), I valued him & his service to me as well.

I was in an affiliate hospital of theirs (one of the many that has been gobbled up/acquired). When I was discharged the bills began to come in.

Many tests were "bounced/denied" by my insurance, as they were either written up wrong, code-wise, or just not approved under Medicare. These were never checked in advance (by the Cleveland Clinic facility), many month's afterwards, I am still struggling with them. I can't get returned phone calls from a key contact, even though I leave specific contact information--my cell and home phone number). They're totally messed up in billing and it isn't about the patients/customers.

Any reporting to Patient Relations/Services is, I feel, "discounted" or swept underneath the rug, unless it is a "suck up," telling them how great they are (if there is a complaint, I feel that it is swept underneath the rug). There is an old saying about prejudice, i.e.

that it is "contempt prior to investigation." Well, after a lot of investigation and experiences, I plead "not guilty" here. They need to get their act together and quit being so impressed and hiding behind world class reputation.

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Monetary Loss: $850.

Cleveland Clinic Cons: Billing department.
