No service

After driving four hours to get the "famous Cleveland Clinic" the examining doctor told my wife she could not do the exam because my wife was on Medicare and it only paid for an exam once every two years. My wife told her that we have private insurance that pays for the exam each year.

The doctor refused to do the exam or check on the insurance. My wife is very upset over this. I called the insurance company and verified that my wife was correct and the doctor at the great clinic was wrong. The insurance will pay once per calendar year.

From previous experience, telling the ombudsman about this will not solve the problem for this year. My wife's health is too important to let Cleveland Clinic's mistakes get in the way and she will go to a local doctor for the exam.

CLEVELAND CLINIC BILLING RUDEST IN AMERICA

Updated by user Nov 30, 2014

Posted a new one today, see Cleveland Clinic rears their ugly head again! After written correspondence and threats of me taking legal action, things actually stopped being *** on earth.

I kept all the email correspondences with Beau Kessler and was pleased that things were resolved. Now almost one year later I just got a collections letter from this same bill.

THIS place has got some big time problems. I am going to try and start a website devoted to their nonsense will keep you posted.

Updated by user Dec 28, 2013

WOW- so I got an email stating that the collections would be held for 60 days till an ombudsman could try and help. I got a call from an ombudsman who said "sorry I missed your call will contact you after I return from vacation the 30th. or you can call me back today." I returned the call and "she was out to lunch" left a voice mail explaining that I did not want to delay this and move it into another calender year and asked her to PLEASE touch base that day Friday the 20th. I called back 4 times no return call.

Finally on Tuesday morning I called the ombudsman office and stated the above. Told the person on the phone I have spent over twenty hours trying to resolve this bill, that it has been extended 60 days and why would you assign it to someone going on vacation. She stated a manager would call me that day. It is now a week and actually 10 days since Cleveland Clinic reacted to this posting. So far have not spoken to ANYBODY who had even questioned the collections or offered to help. IF YOU AS A PATIENT ARE EVER CONSIDERING THIS PLACE FOR TREATMENT ASK YOURSELF IF ADDED STRESS WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH. I am going to distribute more messages in social media and contact our local media in the Atlanta area.

When I got an email from Cleveland Clinic assigning an ombudsman and holding off collections I actually sent them a response thanking them, boy was I a fool.

Updated by user Dec 17, 2013

Please excuse the spelling errors in this comment, I am actually very well educated with a degree from Purdue and a second degree from the University of Georgia. It is just very emotional to have a place of business try to destroy my credit due to their lack of competence and they lack the ability to treat people with respect.

Original review Dec 16, 2013
I have had heart problems for the last 4 years, I visited Cleveland clinic in June 2013 for help with possible diastolic dysfunction. I made an appointment with Dr. Neubeuer for help. my cardiologist in Atlanta sent over 140 pages 3-4 weeks in advance for the doctors review. I had cleared this visit with my insurance company and explained upon check in not to perform any tests that could be performed in Atlanta. When I met the doctor after an 800 mile drive he explained that wow you have a lot of records and they are a mess and I haven't had a chance to review them. He proceeded to order tests to check me out. Six weeks later I received a bill for over 1800.00 for tests billed as hospital services which I requested no testing without consulting my insurance. Long and short I contacted billing they basically said to bad pay your bills. i got a supervisor involved who stated the doctor would not respond to his request to review billing. The reason for review he wrote a letter to my general practitioner sating he saw no evidence of a heart attack in the ekg they performed( he was supplied ten ekg's that showed previous infarction and poor wave progression.) The next statement by the doctor was there was no evidence of v-tach even though he was supplied with a hospital report from April listing same symptom as well as a stress test from March also listed as previous v-tach. Finally he mentioned no record of arrhythmia even though it was listed on multiple reports. I also explained to billing that obviously the doctor ordered tests based on NOT reading all my records. I also explained that I had a signed affidavit from the person traveling with me that each day I explained about being from Atlanta and not to perform testing not 100 percent paid for by insurance. The icing on the cake the tests they did stated no diastolic dysfunction at all even though it was documented by two separate hospital visits one within three months of my arrival. One test ordered for urine???never even had results shared with me or my doctors BUT it is certainly on the bill. Doctor visits for a specialist for me are 45 co-pay but the way Cleveland Clinic chose to bill it was over 400.00. Now they have placed me in collections because billing told me to just pay my bills. So no records read, a week in a hotel, 1600 miles of driving, no communication that was even remotely accurate, absolute rudeness and arrogance from billing and *** on me just hand it to collections. SURPRISE I have spoken to the insurance commissioners office for Georgia they said they could not help because it was in a different state. They did suggest I contact our local media station (good idea with the recent focus on health care) and expose this mess since we have Emory University and St. Josephs major hospitals in Atlanta. Did I for get Cleveland Clinic hung up when I tried to contact the CEO( you will get a copy of this tomorrow:>! Also I am a state employee and have some good contacts. CLEVELAND CLINIC WILL BILL BILL BILL and does not care about its patients once they leave.

Cleveland Clinic owes me a refund for over payment. They sent a check in my husband's name and I couldn't cash it so I called them.

A very polite young man apologized and told me to send it back and they would send one made out to me. That was December 1, 2015. I still have not received the refund. I have posted messages to their billing site on CC web site and get nothing but apologies and a refund will be sent to me soon...I didn't get it.

so I called them 3 times over the past 5 months and the last person I talked to said "I promise you will get it in a couple weeks." That was 3 weeks ago. I still don't have it. They are a scam in their billing and I told my family if I ever have to have major surgery, do NOT send me to Cleveland Clinic. My husband was sin a dying situation.

They kept him for 9 days and then told him there was nothing they could do for him. In the meantime his bill was elevated to thousands on thousands of dollars. They told him at about 6 in the morning they were releasing him that day. At 5 pm they still hadn't.

My husband asked the last Dr that came to visit him if he could please get the release going since I had to drive back to Buffalo NY and I can't see in the dark. It was winter and dark early. That Dr told him, a dying man, "You are not the only patient in this hospital so wait your turn." And he said it nasty. He was right there to sign the release but didn't.

I wish I had told that Dr off. I regret to this day that I didn't. 7 days later my husband died. They don't care about their patients at all.

And if you owe them money like they claimed they did for almost two years after my husband was released from there, you get harassed and threatened. They had me in such a bad state I had to go on medications. Finally a collections man that called me said I do not have to pay CC anything because spouses don't have to pay for the other ones medical bills if the spouse has passed away.

Now they owe me money that I paid because of their threats and it's a *** situation. They couldn't care less.

Cleveland Clinic - Receptionist Review

After being put on hold to make an apt for my newborn. I waited in the line for over a half hour before the receptionist hung up on me. We went down there only to be told by her very snotty that we were lieing. I know my kid is sick and then when we saw the pediatric doctor all she wanted to do was hold my child then sent me home telling me she was perfect. Not even paperwork to show I went. Switching immediately.

I was denied treatment at the ER

A few days ago, I called 911 & was transported to the Clinic's ER. I complained of a severe pain #10 in my chest, due to swallowing a small bone. Dr Devin Harper, a resident, treated me as if I was a drug addict. He didn't believe a single word I was saying and showed absolutely no compassion whatsoever; when I rocked back & forth in pain, he merely asked, "Does this help?" I said, "No!" I was unable to swallow due to the extreme pain it caused, yet when I asked for a pain med to be administered by injection, his response was, "Is this what you're here for?" I said, "No! I am here because I am in pain!" According to "Patients Rights & Responsibilities" booklet, my rights as to the Pain Management are, I quote, "to have pain assessed and managed appropriately"; therefore this right was violated. The doc didn't perform a physical examination and he didn't believe a single word I was saying. I was unable to swallow, yet he gave me an oral med that numbed my mouth but did nothing to the chest pain. The timing was perfect, shortly before the discharge. He also gave me a prescription for the Children's Tylenol - this speaks volumes about his understanding and compassion, or actually lack of both. I was discharged with high blood pressure, rapid pulse about 112, respirations about 40/min, and still in severe pain. The only good thing was a Cab Voucher but you have to inquire about it. The nurse's response was, "Oh, I don't know if we still do it, but let me ask the Social Worker", and of course she returned with a yellow voucher. I bet she knew but wouldn't volunteer. I returned home & spent a weekend of ***. Being in extreme pain yet wasn't even able to go to the pharmacy due to that, and wouldn't call 911 again for the obvious reason. I emailed the Clinic about all this, received a reply that was a no-answer. Turns out, I asked a difficult question to answer in e-mail. Yea they would much rather talk to me, maybe, so there's nothing in writing, vs e-mail when everything is in writing. Furthermore, it reads, "The medical professionals at Cleveland Clinic cannot provide a medical opinion without the appropriate clinical information, including review of a complete medical history & by performing a physical examination..." I am not sure if this refers to the ER doc or anyone else. The ER doc had a full access to all my info on the computer, he did have my medical record number. I would say he definitely didn't review anything yet jumped to the conclusion that I am a drug addict. SUCKS. I state for the record that I am NOT a drug addict, and never had been. But talking to the Cleveland Clinic is like talking to the walls. I am offended. Am still in pain but wouldn't even think of calling 911 or seeing anyone at the Clinic, want to spare myself some further embarrassment. If the above are the fine examples of the World Class Care that according to the commercials, everyone deserves, then I would say no thanks.

Cleveland Clinic - Medical Care Review

I was admitted to Cleveland Clinic and had gone into cardiac arrest. They worked on me for an hour. I was having seizures and required anti seizure meds, which worked well in the code blue process. I also had all the symptoms of having had a stroke. I also maintained an irregular heart rate and rhythm. They actually told me nothing was wrong. I decided to go to University. I was immediately diagnosed with an ischemic stroke, cardiomyopathy, and seizures, and prescribed the appropriate meds. I was treated so badly on the Clinic's neuro step-down, I actually developed Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Their ombudsman was of no help. Clearly was not working on the pt's behalf. The Clinic is not world class care. It just had a great marketing dept.

Cleveland Clinic - Unethical Employee Review

Jennifer who takes appt and calls for Dr Kathrine Muzina has got to be the rudiest person I have ever talked to from the Cleveland clinic. This women was not helpful at all and sounded like a robot, non emotional and with no empathy or even a bit of caring in her voice. How this person is allowed to work in a mental Heath office is just appalling. This is so unlike the clinic to have this kind of person answering calls. she didn't even want to help or even try to make suggestions on what to do. Just terrible.

Rude doctors

It might be an understatement to say that the Cleveland Clinic Ombudsman is a joke. Don’t even bother disturbing them. Talk with your newspaper, and you will have a much better chance of getting your issues resolved. Sure! the billing-system should be sent to jail, right?

It’s frustrating to see that someone holding such an important position as an ombudsman does not understand and care about simple things. It was a nightmare to to talk to that person. It’s another thing that they wouldn’t help at all, and even if that person understood the issue, would again forget (deliberately?) in a few minutes. Sometimes that person would even try to explain the solution to an issue that is completely irrelevant.

Needless to say that that person was rude and impatient, the type you might expect from Cleveland Clinic.

So true! I wish I had done some research before I used their services. I deeply regret it! I don’t know anything about computer but I wonder if there is a way this page could be made to be the first hit people see when they google Cleveland. It deserves to be so it gets people’s attention right away.

Cleveland Clinic is THE WORST. They have the worst reputation, out in “the real world.” The only good press they get is from their marketing gurus. All I hear about the Clinic from outside the Clinic is what a dreadful place it is on all levels.

I was unfairly told that Iw as being fired because of poor performance. When I gathered inIfo to dispute the reasons I was being fired, and proved them wrong, I was told either resign or I would be fired. Then they tried to strong arm me into signing the severance package. I said I didn’t agree with it and wanted to review it with an attorney and all of a sudden I was told I either sign it or I would be blacklisted from CCF. I spoke with several attorneys and they wanted nothing to do with the case, because they don’t have the balls to fight the CCF. Finally, I got free legal advice from Legal Aid and was told CCF was known for firing ees for no reason and that I could fight it but it would drag out for years and wouldn’t be worth the time and energy and $$$ because CCF has an entire team of attorneys who have nothing better to do than threaten people.

And don’t even get me started on their billing. I’ve never gotten a correct bill from them. THE WORST. Gives me a headache everytime I had to deal with them. I will never EVER get treatment from them unless I am somehow forced to.

I can’t wait until that place implodes on their own ego. Such a joke. Doesn’t care about patients or the ees. Just care about $$$$$. Sickening. I wish Michael Moore would do a documentary on them

Do you research and stay away form CCF

My wife was treated so badly by one there doctors she left in tears. She was not use to being treated with such disrespect and "hatred" (she said she felt like the doctor hated her the minute she came into the room).

She went in hoping for help but got abused instead! Doctor would not listen to her history or her symptoms, cut her off when she tried to answer. The doctor stormed out of the room with my wife not knowing what she was suppose to do next.

THEIR ADDS ARE A BUNCH OF LIES! BEWARE.

Cancellations and No Response

Took 5 calls and 1 email to get the technician to schedule the check of my pacemaker and this was after they told me they would send me a letter. Waited on phone 3 times for 10 minutes for radiology to take my call. Made an appointment in Feb. for April for my annual physical. This was cancelled and rescheduled for today and then 1 1/2 hours before appointment they cancelled again and wanted to reschedule for June. Until I really complained to a supervisor they somehow found time next week. Great Doctors but time to move to another hospital

Cleveland Clinic lacks any transparency - They destroy lives

Non-board certified staff surgeons; no credentialing requirements or certification for staff surgeons or residents; no signed patient informed consent documents; blank surgeons’ attestations that surgeon was present during the critical portions of surgery; same day surgery verification of patient consent document blank and/or signed months after surgery; surgical op notes signed months after surgeries; concealment of blood loss, complications, and identity of surgeons performing surgery; op notes written in third person; misrepresentation of fact to CMS investigators; failure to report operating room fires; failure to report or document burns to patients; no privileging of staff or residents for use of the defective da Vinci robot; false representation of the safety and efficacy of robotic surgery; false representation of volume experience, surgical outcomes, and credentials of surgeons; staff surgeons performing simultaneous surgeries beginning within a few minutes of each other; patients’ rights violated: These are some of the findings from CMS surveys of Cleveland Clinic Foundation since 21 January 2010. In a three year period, Michael Henderson, Chief Quality Officer of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, signed plans of corrections for CMS Surveys citing serious multiple violations. Following the CMS Surveys at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation on 01/21/2010, 04/30/2010, 02/23/2012, 07/30/2012, 09/20/2012/, and 05/17/2013, in letters to CEO Toby Cosgrove and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, CMS wrote, “WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE DEFICIENCIES CITED ARE SIGNIFICANT AND LIMIT YOUR HOSPITAL'S CAPACITY TO RENDER ADEQUATE CARE AND TO ENSURE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF YOUR PATIENTS.” Sadly, patients, not the Cleveland Clinic, suffer the consequences. Henderson disingenuously states, “I think in fairness to patients we have to point out the shortcomings of the kind of data collected.” In fairness to patients, Cleveland Clinic must disclose all CMS violations on their website along with the complaints of the many permanently injured patients and their surviving families. Leapfrog Group awarded THE FIRST EVER “D” RATING to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for hospital safety in 2012. LEAPFROG, AND CONSUMER REPORTS, GOT IT RIGHT! Cleveland Clinic have been the defendant in more than 5700 lawsuits in Cuyahoga County as of Jan 2013. Jihad Kaouk and Cleveland Clinic are defendants currently in US District Court. Kaouk is responsible for the permanent injury of many, many patients.

CCF needs a compasion doctor

n my last trip to the Cleveland Clinic I saw several doctors. Most were very kind and compassionate even though they could not provide me with any answers regarding my difficult case. Then there was the Dr. Connor She was priggish, arrogant, and dehumanizing. After she found out I have a mild gynecological disorder, she went from being cold and stand offish to just plain nasty. She has no bedside manner. Very rude and arrogant. Why CCF keep doctors like Dr. Dr. Connor is sarcastic and bitter, and has a quick, cruel wit, normally expressed through frequent and sometimes incredibly long rants, unprofessional and making unnecessary remarks. Dr. Connor treated me with no respect. She only lectured me on things that are absolutely none of her business & has nothing to do with what I was seeing her for and the visited related to the birth control pills. If you like the sarcastic, unprofessional type of doctor, this practice is for you. Connor on stuff. She needs is in need of a dose of compassion for patient.

Cleveland Clinic Ombudsman easily snowed by doctors

On my last trip to the Cleveland Clinic I saq several doctors. Most were very kind and compassionate even though they could not provide me with any answers regarding my difficult case.

Then there was the rheumatologist Dr. Johnny Su. He was priggish, arrogant, and dehumanizing. After he found out I have a mild autism spectrrum disorder, he went from being cold and stand offish to just plain nasty and insulting.

He implied I was mentally ill and mentally deficient, neither of which is true. If he bothered to read about my condition or even ask me questions about it rather than jumping to conclusions or assuming he knows everything about everything just because he went to medical school, he might have learned something. He did prove to be quite an effective liar. He completely snowed Rita Byarse, the ombudsman we complained to regarding his treatmwnt of me and his hyperfocus on something not related to his work at all.

After speakin with her, I am not at all surprised he was able to easily lie his way out. She was just as ignorant About autism as he is and was very unsympathic and uncaring. She a lso seemed tolack even rudimentary common sense.

The ombudsman office proved to be quite useless as did Rita Byarse and Dr. Johnny Su.

For Yorba Linda, California:

I am saddened and sickened when I read or hear about situations like yours. I am sorry you had to receive this nasty treatment

by the Cleveland Clinic.

That "doctor" who saw you should be ashamed of himself, but to be so ignorant of the autism

spectrum is incomprehensible. And the mentally ill statement is unpardonable--mental illness is not a crime, but I think

that rude old person used it as putdown. But if he knew something else, he would say something else.

I agree with you,

the Ombudsman's office is a bust, they are a time-waster for patients because they always take the doctor's lies over a legitimate complaint. Sending you healing energy.

Killed kidney transplant

My son had a kidney transplant at the Cleveland Clinic with his aunt as the donor. Dr. Jihad Kaouk ripped the kidney out of the donor with his hand instead of a silk bag and injured the kidney. He had on short surgical gloves and the sleeves of his scrubs caused numerous lymphocele leaks in her requiring additional surgery to install mesh inside of her to stop the leaks and left her unable to bear children. Dr. David Goldfarb then put the injured kidney into my son where it turned septic and nearly killed him before it was removed. The kidney fell apart in the surgeons hands when it was removed. Both donor and recipient fought for their lives with both doctors turning their backs on them and leaving them to suffer and possibly die. We have an unedited movie of the surgery as proof and a website entitled Kidneytransplantkiller.com and a book entitled "Born With One Foot in the Grave" with details of our story. The Cleveland Clinic are not world class, they are butchers.

Thanks for sharing your story. My daughter's fiance is supposed to have a kidney transplant at The Cleveland Clinic.

I've been researching live donation as she was considering.

Very scary information out there. I'm sorry for your son and niece's experience.

How did you get a movie of the actual surgery?

The transplant was filmed during Kidney donation month and he clinic sent the original copy of the surgery to us instead of the unedited version.

Thanks for the info, tho I hope I never need worry about it. I assume you have a good slip and fall attorney and have filed a malpractice suit against all culpable parties. Good luck.
